In Israel we pray for the coming of the Messiah, which means the “anointed one”. The high priest used to anoint kings, prophets, priests, and Temple articles. The olive oil was enhanced with essential oils such as Myrrh, Myrtle and Cinnamon. The holy anointing oil described in Exodus 30:22-25.
The Land of Israel is known as the land of milk and honey. Israel has seven species of trees and plants naturally grown in its lands, these are: olives, grapes, wheat, barley, figs, dates and pomegranates. Even today, Olive trees which were abundant in biblical times in Israel are till today growing on the plains and in her beautiful hills, from the Galilee to Samaria and the Judean Dessert.

While Cinnamomum verum is sometimes considered to be “true cinnamon”, most cinnamon in international commerce is derived from related species, which are also referred to as “cassia”.

The Oil of Gladness “Oil of Joy” – the Gladness Oil is also known as the Oil of Joy has an Olive oil base. It is specifically blended together with cinnamon which symbolizes gladness and joy. It is said when the Messiah returns, he will give the Jewish people “the oil of joy” as a comfort for our mourning. The Oil of Gladness is also the garment of praise for the spirit and appreciation. The Holy Anointing Oil, the Original Anointing Oil “Oil of Messiah” also known as “Kaneh Bosem”, when translated from Hebrew it means “Scented Tube” which the commentaries say is probably cinnamon. It was first prescribed for the High Priest of the Temple, known as the Kohen Ha Gadol. The high priest of the Temple of Jerusalem, Israel was instructed to put the Holy Anointing Oil on himself before he blessed the children of Israel. Later this same Anointing Oil was used by the Kings of Israel to anoint kings and prophets.
